Optical Bonding

What is Optical Bonding?

Optical bonding is a process used to enhance display performance by laminating a protective cover glass, touchscreen, or optical film directly onto a display panel (such as an LCD or OLED) using a special optical adhesive. This adhesive comes either in a film or liquid form and fills the air gap between the layers, reducing reflections and improving durability.

Benefits of Optical Bonding

Less Reflections

Reduces glare and improves readability, especially in bright environments.

Improved Contrast

Reduced ambient light entering the display, resulting in improved contrast and richer colours.

Increased Durability

Strengthens the display by providing extra protection against impact, dust, and moisture.

Prevents Condensation & Fogging

Useful in outdoor or rugged applications.

Better Touch Sensitivity

Eliminates the air gap, making touchscreens more responsive.

Common Applications

Industrial & Military Displays

Used in rugged devices that need high durability.

Automotive Displays

Improves visibility in dashboard and infotainment screens.

Medical Devices

Enhances screen clarity in surgical and diagnostic equipment.

Outdoor & Marine Displays

Reduces glare for better performance under direct sunlight.

OCA Workflow (Roller Lamination)

OCA Roller Lamination Bonder (Atmospheric)

OCR Workflow (Slit Coating)

Suitable for narrow-bezel or products with low thickness uniformity requirements
Provides high productivity for large-size display processing
Suited also for 2.5D-curved displays

The second one is OCR Workflow and (Slit Coating + Pattern Dispensing)

Suited for delay-cured types of UV glue / thermal cure type of UV glue
Lamination is done while the OCR is liquid, ideal for force-sensitive displays
Autoclave process not required after lamination due to bubble-free bonding

Ito Europe supports by offering both materials, as well as a full assembly equipment line-up
